hi all just fitted new thermo coupling to gas ring, but it wll still not keep burning on release of control knob the cooker is a country leisure caprice,, any help please

Check the actual control knob has not been pushed on too hard, as they will not keep lit if they're pushed on too far/hard.

Ittakestwo is right I work on domestic appliances and 90% of faults are the knob is fouling on the facia. Pull the knob off and push the valve in by hand

Assuming the thermocouple is in the flame and you have replaced the thermocouple, and you have eliminated the knob there isn't much else apart from the gas tap.
Was the thermocouple a screw in or push in type?

hi again the thermocoupling is a screw in one, can the gas tap itself be renewed or is all the swtches connected in one long casting, would i have to remove whole cooker to do that job if needed

hi sorry forgot to say that no matter how i play aroung with the   top burner ring i cannot get it to get in line with just one flame it always between 2 flames one either side , but saying that they all are like that

You could try lighting the ring and holding an additional flame, from a lighter etc, against the thermocouple to see if it stays lit.
Have you tightened the nut enough? It doesn't take much to cause a bad connection.
No idea about the construction of one tap can be replaced, domestic appliances can, but you should get a gas Safe registered engineer to carry out the repair.

hi again now located and removed electro safety valve and removed, left to soak for ten minutes in a small amount of electrical contact cleaner, let dry for an hour and reinstalled assebled all parts, carried out test 3 or 4 times and now all works ok, thank you so much for your help in this post.

P S i know there will be some that will throw there arms in the air over my comment here but i have had many years in a lot of variuos mechanical jobs of so many types of repairs with one of maintaining and repairing very large gas pipes and all sizes of machinery so i would not have not done this repair if i had not had any worries about my own standard of work

I had this same thing with my bailey Olympus recently and it turned out to be the gas bottle {calor} thread was knackered , basically I was sold duff bottle , changed it and no more problems
