Hi, just got a phone call from the storage yard to inform me that one of my caravan wheels is flat, we don稚 know how long it had been flat for, the storage yard has been in lock down since March, the owner of the storage yard tried to blow it up, he said it痴 the valve that needs to be replaced, the question I知 asking would the tyre need to be replaced with not knowing how long it has been flat causing damage to the side walls?
If the valve has broken off then it is probably perished. Next question would be how old are the tyres? If more than 5yrs then replace both. If tyres are newer were the tyres fitted somewhere other than proper tyre fitters? If so then possibly tyres fitted with no replacement valves which should really be replaced with new tyres.
If you want to tow caravan a distance at motorway speeds then suggest you get both tyres replaced & fitted at tyre fitters who will as matter of course change valves & balance wheels then you know you are good to go.

If the valve needs replacing the tyre will have to come off to fit and a close examination of the casing can be made.
Thanks for the replies, the caravan is only a year old but for the costs of a new tyre I値l get the tyre replaced for peace of mind. It値l cost a lot more if I have a blowout

Your biggest difficulty probably will be getting the same brand of tyre and tread. If you are planning on using the caravan in France I am told that different brands are not allowed on the same axle.
However with a bit of luck the tyre will be okay once checked and a new valve fitted.
