Away with the caravan at the moment and the water pump kicks in quite regularly, probably every 10 15 minutes and stays on for about 1 2 seconds.
I am waiting to replace the ceramic tap insert because it is leaking when in use. I am hoping this is the reason for the pump pulsating. Is this feasible?
Hi Rich if you have a pressurised system rather than one with microswitches in the taps, which it sounds like you have, that is definitely feasible. What is happening is that the pump maintains pressure in the pipework. If there's a leak somewhere, that is reducing the pressure in the pipe and the pump momentarily starts up to build it back up again. Then it leaks out and the pump starts up again, and so on. If you have a switch for the pump you could switch it off each time after you have drawn water until you can get the leak fixed.
Thanks all for the comments. I am at home at the moment and the ceramic tap insert has arrived, so when I return in a couple of days hopefully I can get it sorted.
Re reading my original post I wasn't very clear with what I said. The tap is leaking but not from the spout. The leak is from the swivel tap where it rotates around the main body of the tap. When I purchased the valve I did notice some large o rings in the same section which I presume have probably gone. I guess whatever needs doing now means removing the tap. I notice that on the inner face of the sink are like 3 rubber bungs/blanking plugs.
Presumably the sink will require removing and the waste outlet will require disconnecting and also the tap feeds. Can anyone offer any hints or tips when doing this. Haven't looked at the price of a new tap but that could be a simpler option. The mobile caravan engineer is booked up for 6 weeks. This means either waiting for him or having a go my self. In the mean time or if I have to wait the 6 weeks or so, I was wondering if I got some water hose could I fit this to the feeds to the tap (at the pump end) with some type of blanking connector. Once again any comments appreciated.
Dependant on the age of your van, you may have a ceramic cartridge inside your tap, if so, the leak can probably be fixed by replacing the cartridge and no need to remove the sink, it'd done from the top.

I dont seem to be doing very well with my posts.
Probably having senior moments again.
I have replaced the ceramic cartridge but still leaking from the swivel part of the tap. I was thinking that if I have to remove the tap because it may be the o rings, and as the van is 2007 I am thinking in this case I may be just as well replacing tap.
Oh dear, what a pain Rich. The good news is you have a spare cartridge now.
I agree, replacing it with a new one is the only viable option now. If like mine, the sink sits on top of the fridge, you may be able to gain access to the sink drain from the top fridge vent opening?

I had same problem, easier to replace tap, think it was £20 for new one,

Thanks all for the advice. Luckily I have silicon grease with me and the seals/o rings hopefully delivered early next week. I will also check out the barrel connection - would a touch of slicon grease be ok here as well?
