I was wondering the same and in the end used adhesive spray which has done a good job. There was a slight gap where the ends joined and I used a little silicone to fill it.

Just realised I misread post earlier. I was wondering about covering the spot where vinyl joins together with a metal strip.
Photos of repair and when vinyl was put back.
