So following my post about my damp caravan and a lovely week away in it I'm going to return home and attempt to repair it 🙃 we are going to try to replace the inside panels but first I wanted to try protect the outside. Is their anything we can paint it with to do this? Also what is best to seal it? is silicone sufficient?
I'm no DIY expert and I just hope to be able to get another 2 or 3 years out of it for infrequent use. My kids absolutely adored being away in it. Thank, im sure I will be back with MANY questions.
dont use silicone! you need silkaflex 512, this needs to be applied on totally grease free clean area so white spirit and then meths its none setting, so stays flexible, until you find the leak i suggest covering the roof and the sides is a large plastic sheet, there is no need to be painting the caravan externally at all, it wont stop any leaks.
thank you, the thought behind painting it was just to preserve it? it has so aluminium rust (I've been told) so I was hoping their was something I could cover it with. The roof isn't leaking, that the one bit that (touch wood) seems to not have any problems 😆.
aluminium dosent rust! it can react when in contact with steel. so where is it that you have problems with damp? have you checked the caravan using a damp meter?
