hi so i have a gew questions.... any advice is great.
doing up a 1990s lunar caravan 390 2
the plug to connect to the car looks like it's gone and the wiring needs replacing too. can i buy the socket and wire allready done. ?
it looks like a newish box and some wiring internal was done about 15 years ago. how cn i test its still all safe ?
should i just re place all gas pipes. and connectors including the a frame ones to tbe gas bottles ?
also lookong at replacing foam seating as its so old and nog comfortable any diy ideas i am seam seamstress so i will sew new covers but the foam feels a mind field. ? and expensive ?
Hi. Not sure about plug and cable pre-wired. It may be possible to get one but I've never seen it. It's quite easy to DIY though, and the cable and plugs are readily available. My caravan is a 1992 model and all the internal wiring is fine, so unless yours is damaged in some way I would think it would be fine too.
Flexible gas piping should definitely be replaced, but the solid pipework should be ok. If you have any doubts about it get a caravan engineer to give it a leak test.
Not sure about seating as that's outside my field of expertise.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
You can get pre wired cable but if you have to ask the questions then your best bet would be to book it in for a service at a caravan workshop & pay them to do what is required.
Tbf most folk will just buy an old caravan & use it but if you are that worried about safety & don’t have the knowledge to diy then get it done at a caravan workshop or use a mobile caravan mechanic.

Yes you can buy pre-wired.
The O/P wanted a plug pre-wired for the caravan, not a socket for the car. Are they available, I'm not sure? Anything like that I would always do myself.
If you are doing up an old caravan I would recommend you get hold of a book called "The Caravan Manual" by John Wickersham. (ebay £9.99) It's brilliant and tells you all you need to know. It is not written for experts, it's written for people whose knowledge of DIY is basic. The copy of it I have was published in 1993 so it is especially relevant to those of us with older caravans.

Thank you fro your help i have booked it for a service and found out water heter is not working???
cascade mk2 it staes on the plate, these feels like it could be a whole world of finding part and rebuiling but every thing else is good.
so just to do some repaers on seals, and window cathes, and rubbers, and we could be away wahoo very excited..
Thank you fro the book advice i was lookimg at this book but wasnt sure witch copy to get so ill find the 1993 one. thank you.
Any one know how to find the VIN number on the van found a chasis number witch is very short so feels a little strange.
there are numbers on the window but not sure if this is the vin number to identy how old it is?
I am complaelty new so have lots to learn about the van and how to do things. i was akid in this van was in use propperly. so be nice to get it safe and on the road again.
Cascade Mk2 water heaters are very common and parts are available for them, so shouldn't be much of a problem there. Some (like mine) are gas only, but others are gas/mains electric. The gas ones are very good, and I would imagine the dual-fuel ones are even better.
The book I mentioned is readily available on ebay, and probably in other places too.
I never managed to find the VIN number on mine, but the numbers on the windows are CRIS numbers, which is Caravan Registration & Identification Scheme. You can find out exactly how old the caravan is from them.
Any questions you have just ask, someone on here will almost certainly have the answer.
I got the name slightly wrong when I mentioned CRIS. It is actually the Central Registration & Identifcation Scheme.

It still costs £15 to register a caravan on the scheme, and I think it is worth it. It's just a one-off payment. I think the scheme started in 1991, and all caravans since have been registered with them and have a number on the windows. When a caravan changes hands it's a good idea to update the registration in your name, although I don't think it's actually compulsory.
