am i doing something wrong . We have replaced our knackered 3 way fridge with a 240v camping fridge. I have put a new domestic double plug on the power lead from the old fridge, yet when I plug it in it blows the fridge fuse . Yet if I put plug into one of the caravan sockets it works fine . Is the power from the old fridge different.

3 way fridge is a fairly low power resistive load, usually on a 6A circuit breaker. The other sockets in the caravan are usually fed from a 10A breaker. It may be that the compressor fridge has a startup power draw that is tripping the smaller breaker.

Fully agree with that Jesscar. The fridge motor could take as much as 7 times the running current on start up. Also, MCBs have a letter as well as a current rating. This can be B, C or D and shows how sensitive the tripping will be with inrush currents. The rating will typically be C6 or C10. B is trigger happy, C is average and D is generally used for motors.

Its only blowing the fuse in the fridge .

I think you need to be a bit more specific about the "240 volt camping fridge ".
Make and model would help particularly as you don't often get fuses in fridges.

Plug top fuses are fastblow types. For a compressor motor fridge a higher rated fuse may need to be fitted because of the motor starting current. A 10 amp fuse should be available for this purpose. Plug top fuses available are 3,5,10,13 amp. Find by dividing the power consumption in volt-amperes VA (ac equivalent of Watt W) by the supply voltage (230/240 volts). Fit the next higher value available to the calculated amperes.
