Our motor mover has suddenly stopped moving on one side. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this.   We seem to sort one problem on our van and then another problem appears!

Check the connections at the mover and control box, it could be as simple as the cable has pulled off the terminal or the terminals are corroded and need cleaning up and refitting. When mine stopped on one side I checked for rodent damage as well just in case some hungry rat had decided to nibble the cable.

If the cables and connections are ok try gently tapping the motor like you would with a starter motor, this often miraculously fixes a multitude of problems like sticky brushes.

If the roller motor is working on the non moving side it could be a roll pin thats sheered.

I have today got the same problem, checked the rollers and one side is loose so doesn’t make contact with the tyre.
My question is, how are the rollers held in place and if it’s sheared will a new roller still be able to be fitted?

Thanks
John

John can you release the rollers and motors back to the normal position and measure the gap between the rollers and the tyres? You may find that one motor has moved on the chassis rail so is not making contact now, if so it's just a case of moving the motor back to the correct position and retightening the fixings.

Thanks Rob, the problem is that the near side roller is loose. Don’t know if it can be tightened, needs a new roller or if the mount for it is broken.
When this roller is engaged it angles backwards as soon as it gets to the tyre, so won’t grip it.

Thanks
John

If the roller is floppy then it sounds like a pin and axle problem. The manufacturer should be able to supply spare parts to enable an easy fix.

My motor mover on the off side is not working as it should. It moves onto the tyre but does not appear to have enough pressure to keep contact on the tyre and the whole unit seems loose. The gap is correct as is the tyre pressure but only the nearside seems to work. When I try to move the van forward it pulls to the left (near side) and will not pull to the right side at all...any ideas are welcome.

Does your mover have a motorised accuator? If so, check the 2 x bolts that hold the accuator to the bracket. I had a similar problem and discovered the bolts had worked loose and fallen out, which meant the accuator wouldn't engage the tyre. One of the bolts was lost, the other I found in the plastic cover. Replace the bolts and everything should be ok!

Also check if a bearing has collapsed. the seals aren't great so water and salt gets in and rots them. Not too bad a job to replace if they are cream crackered. As mentioned already, the roll pin can snap so that although the motor turns, the roller doesn't.

Try winding the roller back with that fancy socket / key. They sometimes work of the gearing.

Nice cheap fix that, give them a clean and maybe a bit of light grease and your good to go again. Perhaps check the other side whilst you're at it? Thanks for coming back with the update, many just don't.

Dave.
