Wondered if anyone has ever tried to repair a fibreglass awning pole. Bought a second hand van which came with an awning, tried to put it up the other day and one of the roof poles has been crushed maybe 4" at the end. I was thinking of just cutting it down but at the moment I can't put the awning up to see if cutting will leave it short .
I thought about just going to a car shop and buying a fibreglassing kit to insert inside the pole and strengthen it up? Not adverse to buying a replacement pole just nobody local to take it to measure up etc
You can't just cut 4" off the pole and expect it to do its job properly unless it's a telescopic one and that could compromise the pole's rigidity when extended.
Most makes of awning poles are available as spares because they do get broken from time to time, usually pretty expensive though. Maybe you can remove the fittings and reattach then to a new one universal type of the same diameter that is long enough to cut to the correct length?
