I have recently bought a 3 year old Bailey caravan having said good by to our 23 year old sprite. I removed the gas connection from the butane cylinder to swao it for a full one but for some strange"simple" reason I can't connect it back onto the cylinder. Any advice welcome.

erm doesnt your new van have a bulkhead regulator? most newer vans have them nowadays

Bulkhead gas regulatorMaybe becaause it is 23 years old ! The caravan manual should show you what connection to use. Is the gas regulator not on the bulkhead ? if so your gas tail just screws into the gas bottle.

I would have thought that a 3 year old caravan would have a bulkhead fitted regulator. These normally have a gas pigtail pipe which connects to the gas bottle with a screw connection. I have never seen a pigtail with a clip on connector.
You may need to change your bottle but I would have a word with your local caravan dealer if I were you. Lots of things have changed in 23 years!

Calor Butane 7kg and Patio Gas and Flogas Propane Gaslight are clip on connectors and fit to the end of pigtails and use the bulkhead regulator. From the photo I can't tell what that one is. With the clip on connectors you need to make sure the twist lock is in the correct position, if not it will not push down far enough to engage on the cylinder. There used to be a guide on the Flowgas website as to how they work but I can't find it at the moment.

Thanks. I suspect I may have broken the clip on adaptor and will probably buy a replacement.

My Calor gas regulator is vaguely similar to that photo. It goes on easy enough but if you didn't know how, you might have a job to get it off. The knob that turns the gas on and off turns past the off position to release it from the cylinder, but you have to press a button in to turn it that far. Release position is 180 degrees from the on position. Maybe that one in the photo is similar?

That is a clip fitting on the end of a butane nut pigtail from bulkhead regulator. All good so far. If you are trying to connect a 7kg Calor butane then that should be a 21mm clip fitting. If it don’t fit then as you say it could be busted & need replacing.
