We have been away in our caravan for the first time this year and discovered that the hot water control on the kitchen mixer tap just goes round & round. This means we can't turn off the hot tap & every time we switch on the pump, water is forced out of the tap.

Does anyone know how to fix this or do we need to replace the whole mixer unit? If so, how easy is it?

Sue

If it is a "whale" type tap the same happened to me in my parents motorhome. Take the tap off and have a look inside - you may find that the "spindle retainer" has gone i.e. the plastic that keeps the tap in place. Try pulling the cold tap off and put it on the hot tap and see if it works. if it does then all you need is a new tap assembly which costs around a fiver. The taps are usually a plastic assembly inside and this can wear out.

Yes it is a 'whale' tap. Thanks for the advice. We'll give it a try at the weekend.

Is the tap just supposed to pull off upwards or does the whole unit need to be taken out?

Well we got the tap off and the spindle had broken in two. Funny how it was OK when we last used it - the van went in for a service a couple of months ago. They didn't mention a problem with the tap then.

Anyway we abandoned attempts to mend it & bought a whole new tap unit. Fitted it (well husband did!) and we have hot water again.

We needed to get it sorted quickly as we're off for a fortnight's holiday next month.
