During the lockdown I have renovated my 21 year old caravan. I want to change the taps. I have some domestic ones to fit but the bottom of the flexi pipes that came with tap don’t fit on the blue striped pipe with the water supply. I looked to the net and saw about switches on taps how do I know if I have a switch? There are no wires from the existing tap? Any help please oh now to connect? Thanks.
Generally there are 2 types of system, the microswitch type with the wires up the side of the tap to the switch and the pressure sensitive type where the pump is triggered by a drop in static pressure.
If the taps have no wires then it is the pressurised type and any tap can be used (domestic taps can be a bit heavy though)
Domestic taps usually have tails for 10mm or 15mm pipework but caravan fittings and pipework are usually 12mm.
I think it may be a case of new tails, new taps or quite a bit of adapting
If you don't have wires to your old tap you don't need them on the new one.
So, for anyone else wondering which taps they need. - Basically, the pump needs to be told when to run/stop. This function can be done in two ways, a microswitch on each and every tap, hot or cold, which senses that you have turned the tap on/off, (this tends to be in older set-ups). The later alternative and simpler system utilize a pressure-sensitive switch somewhere in the pipework feeding all the taps.
As said, in the absence of wires, you have a pressure switch system and just need an adaptor for the hot and cold connections between the tap fitting and your pipework. This could be a combination of copper and plastic to get the desired result.
