Hi all I was looking to get a weight limit upgrade for my caravan. Its a Bailey Olympus 460/2. Looked on the Prima web site and found that all that is involved is some upgrade stickers for nearly £60. There is no mods to any parts of the caravan at all. Digging deeper i found that the axle is capable of taking the reported upgrade weight gain without any mods at all. So why £60 for some 3 stickers 2 oval and 1 upgrade weight display. I also am thinking if you get a stop from the blues brothers they will weigh your caravan to the weight displayed by the weight sticker not the weight that can be carried by the axle. Anyone had or feel an issue here. £60 for stickers only, I feel is a bit rum, when replacement original stickers are about £14
------------- If I do it today, I will have nothing to do tomorrow.
Yes the max laden weight of caravan is the weight displayed on plate. If you want to uprate you can to the max axle weight but be aware doing this might then require B+E licence to tow it legally when previously it did not.
It is legal to make your own plate & you can buy blank plates & stamps for this purpose but if caravan is still under warranty that might be voided unless done as required by warranty t&c’s.
You also get with the upgrade plate(s) a certificate from the NCC which you pay for in the quoted price.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
When I bought my Elddis I asked for an upgrade. it increased the MTPML from 1310 to 1500kg. The extra 190kg of load is handy. I have a suitable licence including B+E I did not need to pay anything for this upgrade.
The MIRO is 1182kg so my payload increased from 128kg to 318kg.
I was crawling around under the caravan and 1500kg is clearly stamped on the axle.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
Hi
On my bailey in the gas locker there is a chassis plate stating 1800kg max along with the chassis number.
And the sticker next to the door, along with the chassis number states 1680kg
So the chassis plate in the gas locker, would be the one that DVLA would go by as this is riveted on.
And if i crawl around the axle that's 2000kg?
How they get away with to weight plates on the same van is beyond me.
And want to charge you £60 for the privilege lol
