Hi there Everyone, im new to the caravan club & looking for some help & advice ❤️
Bought my 1st van and planned on doing a full renovation of interior, while taking curtains down yip 😩 Damp , leaking , full front wet. Fast forward 3 days I have ripped it all out & all that’s left is the aluminium exterior & window , everything was rotten , I now plan to rebuild frame along with window frame but I also wondered if I could just take the window out and build a full wall? If I done this I would then need to replace exterior full section , any idea where I would get this from or if there’s an alternative aluminium I could use . Many thanks

Hi Shauna, welcome to the world of caravanning! I’m really sorry to hear about your damp issue. I can’t advise you on rebuilding the inside but the most important thing you need to do before doing any repair work on the inside is to find out where the damp is getting in. You need to check all the sealant at all the ‘seams’ on the caravan and also around all the windows to try to locate the source of the problem and then fix that first. If you don’t, you could spend a lot of money fixing up the inside only to find it all damp again in a few months time!

Thankyou for your reply .

I have located the culprits (holes along exterior facings ) at the moment it’s all stripped out & drying , next step was to fill & seal however I though replacing exterior & getting rid of window would save me the hassle 🙈 it looks like I need to take it all off to be able to do a proper repair 🤦‍♀️🙈😂
