So we have just bought a new second hand caravan and on the way home the caravan was squeaking as we were going over bumps in the road etc.

I didn't think caravan's have suspension so could it be a Bush or something that I would be able to lubricate myself ?

Anyone else ever had such an issue and if anyone wants to suggest it is a sign the caravan is about to collapse please don't tell me !?!?!

Thank you.

It has a winterhoff but i guess that too will have pads yes. I never even thought of that. Now you have mentioned that I guess the first place to start would be change the pads. Thank you very much for the information. 👍👍👍

Unless you are sure, could it be that maybe your towbar is loose? Or even the cars suspension defective. And showing up under the weight? Its not common to 'hear' noises pertaining to the caravan itself, outside the pads or jockey wheel down.(i accept its not the latter).

The Winterhoff hitch only has two pads and they can be scoured and cleaned with brake cleaning fluid without the need to remove them.

From experience they are quite prone to 'groaning', especially when wet, and I usually clean them before every trip.

The indicator is telling me they are worn so probably best I replace them. Mine wasn't moaning though it was squeaking like an old spring mattress. I'm starting to wonder if this is noise/problem but the friction pads need replacing anyway so I'll start there. Thanks.

Thanks for the post. Fingers crossed it will be my problem too. The indicator has entered the red STOP area on the stabiliser so they definitely need changing. The tow ball is free of paint and rust so don't think it's that.🤞🤞

Years ago, when we got our very first Caravan, we had a similar problem with squeaking. We took it back to the dealer and he explained to us that it was a contaminated hitch and he showed us how to clean it using brake cleaner. I’m sure there will be some videos on YouTube that show you how to do it! I always find YouTube very helpful when I need to work out how to do something.
