My Electrolux dometic autoignition fridge works on mains via a generator but does not work on gas, plus now the auto igniter has stopped working r ticking. it seems all the mobile engineers are very busy so how can I fix this problem ??
Unfortunately, the cure to not working on gas most probably means working on its gas system. in itself very easy but not something these days encouraged as DIY for safety reasons. It might be simply iron dust falling down the flue onto the burner, inhibiting that working sufficiently. Removing the steel cover/shield* and vacuum cleaning out what you can might possibly help without going into the gas system. But ensure afterwards the burner is burning "blue" not "yellow" if it lights. If yellow don't use the fridge on gas, it generates carbon monoxide which itself is dangerous. A yellow burn could be a bit of spider's web or the like in the burner, but addressing that means breaking into the gas system.
The igniter not now working can again be caused by the flues iron dust shorting out the spark, so is not necessarily faulty.
The good news is that as the fridge works on mains electricity it is not irreparably broken, and curing the gas burner and its igniter issues are relatively easy and cheap.
* Edit: there is a presumption here that the burner's shield can readily be accessed via the lower vent aperture after unclipping the vent grill.
Thanks I will look into that, as I have a UKcampsite reccommended2200 generator I can use my house vacum to good effect. as I have C&Gs in electronics and electrics I am aware of the gas safety situation and will bring in a gas engineer if I could locate a free mobile one. Since Pandemic it seems most are booked for the century
Your auto igniter does it have a battery? I know on one of our vans the heater and the fridge both had battery operated igniters. Also is the van level, gas does not work if van is not level.
Most caravan fridges require the 12 volt system to be fully charged. You have got a battery installed I assume! The fridge won't light without one or at the very least a reliable 12 volt output from your generator.
If the fridge hasn't been used on gas for some time the pipework will be full of air which may take 6 or 7 attempts at lighting before it is purged.
