Just bought a caravan. Is it normal for the alko to twist. When the caravan is unhitched, I can grab hold of the alko, and turn it slightly one way, about 15 degrees to the left, it won't do it to the right. Is this normal?
I think you are talking about the handle when in the upright position. There is a bit of rotational movement in the hitch head and the shaft it attaches to. I assume its normal as all mine have done it.
Alko is the manufacturer of the chassis and hitch head, I assume you are talking about the Alko AKS hitch head, the large handle and the smaller handle that you use to connect to the caravan.
Yes it's quite normal with a stabiliser hitch as the towball needs to be dry therefore the hitch needs to swivel one way and the other slightly to allow for the hitch to pivot on the towball designed for travelling over uneven road surfaces, farm tracks, speed bumps and pot holes for example. Trailers that have a permanent fixed hitch (no stabiliser) then the towball has to be lubricated respectively to allow the trailer to pivot on the towball. Examples of this type of hitch are small camping trailers and horse boxes.
