We have owned our Adria caravan since new (2007), and are now looking to sell privately.

We thought our van was CRIS registered, but are now not so sure! Looking back we never recall having any documentation directly from CRIS, but still hold all the papers from the Adria caravan dealership showing our name/address (not moved house since then), purchase price, VIN etc.

Should the dealership have registered it all those years ago for us?

If we don't have CRIS registration what should be provide prospective buyers with to ensure they will be confident to purchase?

Any advise would be appreciated - just thought I'd ask here first, before phoning CRIS when they reopen after Xmas.

Many thanks

WE had teh same problem with our Bailey which we bought in 2015.
The normal procedure is that the dealer sends the details to CRIS and they register it and forward teh certificate etc to you.

We moved house 2 years later realised we didn't have the CRIS docs and couldn't remember receiving them, I did chase CRIS soon after we bought it but CRIS were moving their offices at the time so were in chaos and asked if we could wait.

The solution was I rang CRIS who confirmed it was registered but said I should ask the dealer to send the purchase docs to them. I rang the dealer who had to go up in the attic to get the records and they then sent them to CRIS. A couple of months later, the CRIS documents arrived.

I don't remember the dealer I bought my caravan from registering it with CRIS, but then I did buy it as a trade sale. I contacted CRIS when I got home with it and registered it myself. It was dead-easy.

Only UK made caravans are registered with Cris from new & have been since 1992. Yours is an imported caravan & probably supplying dealer did not Cris register it.

There is no legal requirement for imported caravan dealers to register new sales with Cris & many do not. Cris is a voluntary registration system & is not a legal requirement for any caravan to be registered nor have details updated with Cris when sold on secondhand.

If you have original purchase receipt then that should be enough for a new buyer. If you want to register it with Cris yourself you can. Cost about 60quid I think.

Many first time buyers have never heard of Cris which is why it is so easy to sell a stolen caravan in the UK.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Imported touring caravans aren't automatically CRIS registered the dealer will normally do it if purchasing new.

The dealers involvement with CRIS is only for the initial sale of a new van. Subsequent changes of ownership are for the old and new owners to arrange.

So unless you bought your van new Colin the dealer will not have been involved.

Exactly as I thought Navver. When I bought my current caravan four years ago it was already 26 years old.

My memory is not what it was though so I wasn't sure, although I was fairly sure that I had just done it myself.
