We have an elderly Avondale Eagle. It has an aluminium roof over the top but at each end, the metal connects to fibregalss/plastic and the joint they used was minimal (latter days of Avondale production and I think they skimped on earlier quality). The skimpy rear joint was definitely leaking and not helped by a slope down of the fibreglass/plastic towards the joint, making the joint effectively a water dam, just waiting to leak into the caravan... Anyway I think I fixed this but we have found there was still water coming on the wall inside. I have removed inner ceiling in the area. The polestyrene is not bonded there as in the walls, it is just loose blocks and as the blocks lie on the inner ceiling there was a gap between the blocks and the metal roof sheet. Perhaps when new thus gap was minimal but now the gap was 5 to 10 mm in that area and the roof sheet soaking inside with large dropplets , which I thought was condensation rather than leak. And indeed 20 minutes after drying, the metal sheet was starting to get a wet film. So I am guessing that the air gap between polystyrene and metal is allowing condensation? It is possible the air gap is less or not at all in the rest of the ceiling so no condensation?
If I am right about condensation between polystyrene and roof metal, what is the best solution? Possibly glue new polystyrene to the roof?. I removed the ceiling to the point where the metal was dry, probably took off a couple of square meters around the near side rear corner. I could see the inside of the metal/fibreglass joint I repaired and it doesn't appear to leaking, there was torrential rain when I checked it.
