Evening all

At the end of last season our little "drop in the water butt" Whale pump took the knock, making horrible noises and the flow went to nothing.

I believe (looking at pictures online) our pump was a GP1002, the flow was pretty rubbish. So ideal time for an upgrade....if thats possible?

Something like a GP1652 pump.

We only use the water for showers (old pump was like a dribble) and handwashing.

Another idea I had was to replace what is fitted with a Truma Ultraflow

https://www.aztecleisure.co.uk/products/truma-ultraflow-compact-housing-conversion-kit-white

https://www.aztecleisure.co.uk/collections/water-amp-waste-water-spare-parts/products/truma-ultraflow-pump-assembly

As at the moment the water pipe/ pump just dangle underneath the van - a "modification" by the previous owner.

Just thinking it would tidy everything up - but dont know if it woudl work with microswitch taps?

Cheers

I suppose if its the same fitting there is no reason not to use a more powerful pump and a lot to be said for it. In the past I have found Whale customer services very helpful so it might be worth a quick email to them?

I think you would have no problem with micro-switched taps. I have them in my caravan, and the one I had before, but with the last caravan I replaced the water inlet with that Truma Ultraflow as the one fitted to the caravan when I bought it was damaged. It worked great.

When I first got my van, someone advised 'get a spare pump' 'cos it's a pain if it fails and you have no running water! So I did start looking, fortuitously at the time someone else recommended getting the Whale pump in preference to another Truma pump which I already had for the Truma Ultraflow inlet coupling, as it had better water flow (higher gph figure) and was considered more reliable. So the Whale pump it was, and still in use nearly 4 years on as my regular pump, with the Truma one relegated to 'spare' status, it does work hard and is well used as I use the on board shower in preference to site facilities. IIRC, the Whale pump was also a little cheaper than the Truma one as well at the time, so a winner all round.

I can't check which model it is, as miles away in the van in storage yard, but it certainly resembles the GP1652 and was rated as a high flow pump. Wouldn't hesitate in buying another one should I need to.

Reasonably sure this is the pump I've got: https://bigwhitebox.co.uk/product/whale-water-pump-truma-ultraflow-ep1642/

My system is a pressure switch type, but can see no reason why a microswitch system should be any problem, and Whale advise suitable for both: https://www.whalepumps.com/rv/product.aspx?Category_ID=10006&Product_ID=7&Friendly........

we had the same problem with the flow of a whale pump although ours was pressure controlled I just got an identical replacement and it was great
I think either the motor or impeller (or both) must have been on the way out for a long time.
Anyway now it is perfect.
