Hi. Yesterday I ran 3 water barrels of treated water through my caravan system after it having stood for 8 months. There were no issues however I've just connected up everything on site but as soon as I turn the pump on, water is bursting from the pipe connection on the outside of the caravan. I've tried twisting the pressure knob both ways under the seat but it doesn't seem to fix the issue. Any advice would be very welcome. I'm fairly new to this.

It sounds to me like the "O" rings have failed on the pipe connection. They should be easy to replace.

Adjusting the pressure switch inside the caravan won't make any difference, that only switches the pump on and off when you open and close a tap.

I replaced the o rings last year cos we had a problem with it then. Would they deteriate that quickly? And it was fine a day ago. 🤔

Is the water still rushing out even if the taps are turned off? If so, the pump must still be running. Does any water come out of the taps when they are turned on? If not, there must be a blockage between the water inlet and the pressure switch.

We had the same issue last year on a less than 12 month old pump. As with you, it was fine one day but gushing water the next. The blue flexible pipe was loose on the rigid pipe where it fits into the caravan. We used a small tie wrap (or maybe a jubilee clip would work if you can get one to fit) to hold the flexible pipe tightly in place over the rigid pipe. This worked fine but we claimed a new pump under warranty - if we had had to pay for a new pump we would have just carried on with the tie wrap!

I would agree as probably dried out and not sealing. Think it is about a £1 for the set from a caravan dealer.

I would agree as probably dried out and not sealing. Think it is about a £1 for the set from a caravan dealer.


Faulty O rings were suggested as the cause of our problem - replaced them, made no difference, but worth trying anyway as they are really cheap.

Yes I got a few spares from last year. I've just put in a different hose I found and it seems to be holding up at the moment. I get the feeling they are just not making a watertight connection. I'll get a new one and see how it goes.

My connection is the same as this and regularly get water spurting out from behind the O ring.
As others have said new O rings are pennies so won't hurt to change it. I did and it now happens less frequently but when it does I find if you make sure everything is bone dry especially inside the hole where the connector slots in then it can cure the problem. Also push in on both of the twist clips with your thumbs when you have turned them to hold the connector in place. These do slide in and out a little so pushing in on them gives a tighter connection.

LAST RESORT: Do all the above and then lightly press the connector inwards while someone turns on the cold tap inside then very slowly and carefully release (with tap still running).

Hope this helps. If you find a better fix please post it up for me to try!

Several years ago, I had this system on my caravan.

I found the O rings were easily damaged when inserting the connector. I took to smearing a drop of olive oil on the seals each holiday to lubricate them on insertion.

As above with a smear of olive oil, don't use Vaseline as it can rot rubber O-rings.
I use silicon grease on mine (from the dive shop)

I swapped the existing Carver pump connection on my caravan to a Truma Ultraflow connection about 5 years ago because from past experience over about 12 years the Carver is far too problematic in more ways than one. Since changing to the Truma Ultrafow the only problem I've encountered once is surface corrosion on the two brass contacts which a quick rub with wire wool and a slight spray of WD40 instantly cured the problem.

Lol, Carver having reverted back to the mk2 they already had the Crystal mk4 in development. Truma though bought Carvers caravan division so ultimately arrived as the Truma ultraflow, it was though simply the replacement for the problematic Crystal mk3

The Ultraflow is good, and I fitted one to my last caravan. I would have fitted another to our current caravan had there been anything wrong with the Mk2 that it is fitted with. If I ever get any problems with it the Ultraflow will be my first option for conversion.

By bizarre coincidence after posting on here my methods of getting round this issue we got back from a week in Devon yesterday. On setting up the water I had this forum thread in mind. I put olive oil on the O ring pressed the connector in nice and snug (it did seem to slide in a little further than normal) and hey presto no leaks and a week of problem free water supply!
On packing away though fate intervened. I gently coerced the connector out of the socket like always. The connector came out as normal or so I thought. Turns out the part with the O ring on is now broke off and still inside the socket on the van!
I've spent hours trying to source a replacement connector only (part no 40060-80600) but it seems they're now obsolete so no option other than to change all over to the ultraflow.
