Hi all
I have a problem with my Dometic RM7371 fridge, it refuses to work on gas setting.
when I turn it to gas the orange light constantly blinks while the igniter clicks away and lights the pilot then it will stay lit for a minute or two then go out all the time continually blinking, it will do this several times and then it stops clicking, I've had the fridge out to try and find the fault but it will start clicking again?
I did get it working properly last week where the light stayed constant and the fridge started to chill but I had the turn the fridge off to move it and I'm now back to square one.
I've tapped the gas valve to see if it was just sticking but that wouldn't explain the igniter form temporarily working, I'm just stumped as to what is wrong with it

When you have the fridge running on gas then then it's critical that the caravan is level in both directions otherwise it can be very temperamental. When the caravan is level and the fridge still doesn't function on gas then it could be that the burner is out of line and needs resetting or the thermocouple could have malfunctioned and needs replacing. Personally my advice would be to get a service engineer to have a look as it as they can detect and rectify faults immediately.
Make sure that your leisure battery is fully charged too otherwise it will create a weak spark at the fridge igniter.

the caravan is level and leisure battery is fully charged, I can get it to light but the gas indicator light is flashing constantly and it only stays lit for a minute or two.
The ignition stops clicking once it's lit which means the thermocouple is working as it should, I've put the fridge on 240V for tonight to get the temperature down and see if it will work tomorrow night

I had the same problem on my former van and it was soot and debris around the pilot light.
The flue gets sooty and does collect spiders , webs etc , I used a flexible piece of tube and blew down it whilst pointing it around the pilot light.
I guess you could use a foot pump, airline etc.
Once it was cleared out it worked perfectly

If you intend to run fridge on gas regularly then cleaning of burner & flue should be considered normal maintenance say once every couple of years at least.

The burner and flue are clean, no debris came out of the flue and the burner was clean.
I had the fridge on 230V all night and most of today just to get the fridge down to temperature, I turned it onto gas and it started flashing as usual until I turn the thermostat down to mid position and the light stayed constant.
I left if for half an hour and it started flashing again until I turned the stat down more, so I'm thinking there's a problem with the PCB but can't be sure.
I'm going away in the caravan for four days tomorrow morning and I won't have an electric hook-up so I need an alternative other than gas, if I was to get an inverter would it drain the battery? I have a 30W solar panel that I use just to keep the battery topped up but not sure if the inverter connected to the fridge would draw to much power from the battery

your battery would be dead with in 2 hours or so. get as much as you can food wise frozen, including your milk, and put in your fridge right at the last minute before leaving, the frozen food will slowly defrost, but it will keep the inside of he fridge nice and cold, just dont open the door to often ok

Fridge probably takes 100 to 120 watts at 230 volt but cuts in and out under thermostat. About 10Amps from battery so about 120 Amp hours or bit more per day. Subtract the power your PV will put in but add on other uses like laptop charging and lights etc

50 to 60 watts at 12 volt but is on all the time, no thermostat. About 5Amps. So about 120 Amp hours or so per day. Subtract the power your PV will put in but add on other uses like laptop charging and lights etc

I only intend running the fridge on 230V, so with an inverter and solar panel it should be OK

Update!
I tried it on gas again and turned down the thermostat until the light stayed on constant, the fridge eventually started flashing and I had to turn the stat down more.
I checked the flue and had no heat so it had been off for a while and as the temperature raised in the fridge and the stat called for gas it would start flashing, now I thought if the light is constant then it's running normally but not in this case.

So I really don't know what is wrong with it, all I know is that the jet is clean and so is the flue plus the stat is working because it was asking for gas when it needed it

Sounds like the pilot light might be going out, if one is fitted.

Probably best to get a mobile qualified caravan gas engineer to have a look at it

I assume that other gas appliances work on gas, ie oven?

Everything else works fine on gas, it lasted the 4 days (just about) it seems to go out after an hour or so.
I didn't fit an inverter in the end because I couldn't restrict the voltage through the solar panels and didn't want 18V running to my batteries

Bit of an update with the fridge

I pulled the fridge out today, connected a flexi gas hose from the disconnected pipe to the fridge and after checking there was no gas leaks fired it up.
it stayed on for an hour and then the gas cut out, lit it a few more times and it did the same but within 15 minutes.
Now the next time I lit it I left it running for a couple of minutes and then tapped the gas valve and the gas cut off so tried it a few more times and the gas cut off every time I tapped the gas valve, now I'm no gas fitter but I don't think it should be doing that

am I correct
