With the weather getting cold, the last two times we have visited our sited caravan, there’s been loads of flys hiding behind the windows. They are getting in van and doing our head in. How can I adjust the windows to bring them in closer to body? Is it an easy fix?

Windows normally sit tight against the rubber seal that runs around the window frame. You can tell if it's tight by closing it onto a little strip of paper and pulling gently. Try it all around the edge and see is it doesn't grip anywhere. Or, is the seal damaged in any way, or even, are the flys getting in through the windows in the first place?

Dave.

You need to pull the windows closed then fasten the lever. If you don't, they fasten on a night latch position leaving a small gap around them for ventilation.

I’m aware how to shut the windows but thanks all the same. I will try what Pickled said however they are latching properly inside so could be the rubbers. Never had this with any other van, but they are getting in and it’s annoying

I would go to Seals Direct and get enough to replace one window, see if it makes a difference and then change the rest.

Worth a go.

Are you sure that you haven't got a dead mouse or similar lurking in a cupboard somewhere? Something is attracting them. Seems unlikely to me that they would be coming in the window for no reason.

Dave, I hardly think so. These flys cluster behind windows as sun is on van all day but they are getting through. There’s no dead mouse or nasty smells, this is what flys do. Just seems the rubbers might have perished so thankyou blueexpo97 for the suggestion. I will have a look

They are probably cluster flies - just take a look online if you want the details of their life cycle and to help you identify and understand what is happening. The chances are they are entering via vents etc the same way as they enter through small gaps to get into attics, hence their other name of attic fly. They cluster around the windows to pick up some warmth but as it gets colder they will raft up in big groups for the winter before flying off in the spring to lay their eggs and start a new cycle.

Just done that when I put it in storage yesterday. I’m gonna check back at weekend to see if it’s done anything with their wrinkles
