Hi all, we found a damp/rotten area in the door area of our 20 year old swift caravan (we've owned for less than 1 year). Trying to locate source of leak... Could this external seal be it? Can't tell if this seal does anything or if it is just cosmetic trim?
it could be, but what the most likely cause is, is that the door being open when its raining, such as kids in and out and wet shoes left by the door, its one of the areas that suffers, the other being around the kitchen
The picture is not a clear indication.More pictures maybe from the inside area showing any area that is showing damp. That seal just looks like a filler strip as used to cover where screws have been used to fix the frame.
water gets in and never dries out... i just did mine in front of the door..
i cut the rotten upper ply out and filled it in with solid timber.. its not that hard to fix.. finding how the water got in isnt that important just assume that some does.. the water gets in between the floor covering and the wood and never dies out.. i left my repair bare just covered by the door mat..
It could be from the light over the door or even a roof seal, these types of leaks will have travelled down behind the inside trim, however good luck with finding it
We had the same problem and fixed the floor and walls then found more damp from a ceiling light, just so annoying I cant wait to get rid of the caravan and focus on my camper
