Hi, I have a Bailey 554 caravan and checked the rear lights, the bottom left hand light (passenger side) do not work, I have put in a new bulb and tried all functions I can think of, but I don’t know what it is, it’s clear and assume a reverse light but it don’t work, nothing in book to tell me, do anyone know what it’s for, the opposite side is a red light and works as a fog light. Any pointers will be great.

i know this seems a weird thing to ask but does your fridge work on 12v when travelling? if not then that is helping to locate the issue, which would be that your not wired in correctly on your car

You haven't state the year of the caravan so what towing plugs do you have fitted to the caravan, is it two 7 pin plugs or a single 13 pin plug?

The 13 pin towing socket is fitted to the towcar but what plugs do you have connected to the caravan. Are they twin plugs (black and grey) or one single 13 pin plug?

The reason for the question is because the rear light on the caravan not working may be related to the types of fittings you have connected from the car to the caravan. Once determined what connections you have will possibly help to identify the problem.

You can't connect a socket to a socket, it has to be a socket connected to a plug. So to get it right, the car has twin sockets (black and grey) and the caravan has a 13 pin plug.
If so, what adapter are you using to connect the two together?
It's the grey socket on the car that produces the power to the reversing light which is terminal 1 and may not be connected up.

The black plug is known as 12N and the grey plug is known as 12S. If you do a Google search for 12S wiring diagram it will show you that pin 1 is the reversing light so you need to plug in the 12S grey plug to see if the reversing light works or not. However, 12N and 12S towing electrics are now outdated since the single 13 pin towing electrics were installed which the twin electrics won't be dedicated to the towcar's electronic towing circuit the same as the later 13 pin circuit is. Therefore if you connect the 12S grey plug and the reversing light still doesn't function it could be related to the older towing circuit not being compatible.

You can buy a 13pin to 2x7pin adapter to get both working, you will find them on ebay/amazon and caravan shops. A lot cheaper and easier than having your car electric towing point changed
