We are in France and our water pump has stopped working. We took it to a local dealer who tested it and it was ok. He attached it to the van and it worked! However, when we got back to the site and submerged it in the water barrel and switched on, it worked for about 5 seconds and then gave up! Any ideas?
Many thanks
Jean
Firstly, get a voltmeter and check the two connections at the Truma Ultraflow water housing. If you have a reading of around 13 volts then it's a defective water pump. I had exactly the same problem last week where the water pump was inconsistent as it operated for a while then then stopped again. I had this for 2 days so purchased a new voltmeter from Halford's for £8.50, tested, then bought a new water pump. Problem solved.
We bought just the pump (and cable) in France and replaced our faulty truma. When we got home, i bought a new whale pump with the trigger connection, and kept the 'bodge' as a spare.
It is quite a good idea to carry a spare pump. With luck you will never need it, but if you do get pump problems, then it would be very useful having one immediately to hand.
Another vote here for carrying a spare, especially as we holiday in France.
Thankfully now we don't need one.

As a matter of interest to conclude the thread, was the existing pump working okay or did you have to replace it for a new one?

Thanks for all your suggestions. We managed to fix it by cleaning the contacts. No new pump required (at this stage).

Advice still stands, get a spare.
