Hi all. Just wondered if anyone had replaced their fridge thermostat, our fridge cuts out when on gas after the first day. I called at my local caravan repairer, who unfortunately is too busy to do the job, but explained how to do the thermostat change. So any tips would be much appreciated. Cheers Ray.
Most absorption fridges don't have a gas thermostat, only when on 230Vac. They generally just have a knob that controls the size of the gas flame.
Perhaps it is the flame failure device (thermocouple) that is faulty or misaligned. Usually it is the gas burner that needs cleaning and aligning correctly
The fridge works fine most of the time, the flue and the burner have both been cleaned, l fitted a new themocouple so that's out of the equation. The it's almost 20 years old now, the caravan dealers where l go showed me where the thermostat tiny narrow pipe goes from the the fins under the freezer to the gas tap. But he is is too busy to do the job. So l just wondered if anyone else had done this job. Over the years l have had the fridge out for cleaning the flue and burner several times.lt lights and burns well but just lately goes out after a couple of days, and doesn't want to light again till I come home, it also gets very cold, too cold sometimes, so it all points to the themostat. Which by the way it does have. Thanks for the replies.
Good point, Thanks. None on top of the fridge, but might be in the cooling fins. Fridge is back in and fires up fine, we are away this weekend, so I will see how it performs. Thanks for the replies.
