At the weekend when just about to leave the site I realised one of the drive units on our mover had not moved back from the wheel. A little fiddling later I was able to wind the unit back in the process finding the nylon gears in the winder gearbox were worn out.
I contacted Purpleline to order replacements but was told they no longer made that unit and had no spares. So I have a mover which still functions perfectly but which is now effectively scrap for the sake of spares costing a few pounds.
Given the current drive to reduce waste and and reduce Co2 I think it’s absurd for a company not to be able to supply spares for an 8 year old unit otherwise working perfectly.
I would try caravan breakers. I quite agree though, this is a trend that has become all too common-place. You aren't supposed to repair things these days, you are supposed to throw them away so that they can sell you a new one.
I liked Purplline stuff, it was good for the price and I too have one of their movers, but had issues with their Kojack and wanted a spare part. They told me they only stock complete units from China and no spare parts whatsoever. Had I known this at the start I think I would have shopped elsewhere because as an ex engineer I have spent my whole life fixing things that can be repaired.

Like you Dave, I will fix anything if it's at all possible, it's the way I was brought up. Dealers just don't operate that way these days though, they have realised that if they don't stock spares you will have to buy a complete new unit (whatever it is) so they make a lot more money that way. Totally contrary to environmental concerns of course, but then profit trumps everything today.
