Is it ok to have a single plug in caravan made into a double or should I just use a extension lead this is mainly for a lamp to be used in an area near my tv and I only have one plug ?
Battery operated lamp could be cheaper, plus it's more flexible re location.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I did the very same thing you needed. I'm not an electrician, but I'm very thorough. (Retired mechanic). I ran a spur off the back of the 240v TV socket to the place I needed it. Fitted a c line socket that matched, and retained the heavy duty 3 core cable in place, out of site and disturbance under and behind the bunks, with cable tie sticky pads and cable ties. I figured if it'll work at home, then it'll work in the lower amperage allowed in a caravan.
Any bright sparks out there correct me if I'm wrong please.

------------- You don`t stop playing `cos you get old, you get old `cos you stop playing!
Don't know how to put all the photos in the same post.
I fitted this socket just so could have a small lamp at the front of the caravan. The downlighters we have are too harsh.

There is technically no problem having a single socket made into a double, but if you are not confident working with mains electricity, please have it done professionally.
I added a similar socket for a lamp etc by the same method. Remember to use flex, (multi-strand) for the wiring and not cable,(single conductor), as per the original.

Replacing a single with a double is straight forward if you have the space to fit it and are comfortable with cutting the panel/board that it is going into. you should not need to change or extend any wiring. As a double only needs a set of connections just like the single socket. It is also worth thinking about having a double with built in USB sockets can be very useful. A back box is essential to protect the rear exposed connections.
I would prefer to install the extra socket, adaptors are ok but they put mechanical load on the contacts in the primary socket and can make them a loose fit which can lead to overheating.
