hi guys . just had our 2013 520 / 4 coachman amara serviced.( 1st year of owning a van) we had a 60 % reading on the off side wall. the only thing near / above is the awning rail. i dont think the ingress has been happening very long as the light blue mark has only just appeared the area if solid and we were using up untill end of oct. i have sheeted the van over with a heavy waterproof sheet and put some heating on, already the reading is dropping. i think the problem is the awning rail. is it just a case of unscrew clean , new mastic strip , new stainless steel screws and replace.does any one know what size screws are needed. or have i missed something.

Hi and welcome to the forum. What you sggested is pretty much it. Try and narrow the search area down if you can and try to see why it has happened in the first place to make sure it doesn't return. It can be bad mastic/sealamnt application, split in the bodywork or crack in a panel or rusted nail/screw. The actual awning rail nornally comes in two halves on most vans so it makees handling it a bit easier as the last thing you want to do is bend it when removing it.

As for screw lengtyh and thickness, you could lift a bit of the hertzim type strip and unscrew one to make sure.

just had a closer look and you are correct the rail is in two parts, and the screws are stainless steel 6g x 25 mm
spare screws and mastic strip on order.

I've had the misfortuine to have had to remove the front awning rails on both sides over the years, the root cause was that a standard steel screw had accidentally been fitted on the roof section instead of a stainless one. the slowly rusting screw's diameter was gradually erroded over time leaving a larger and larger hole where water could get into the inside. the secopnd turned out to be a crack in the ABS under the rail.

When doing the job, try and have an extra pair of hands available to assist when finally removing and the again at initial replacement to avoid bending the rail.

well i think i have resealed it ok.
the work was made easier my me widening the drive by 2' so i could move the van over so i could work on it.
the rail came off easily but getting off the old mastic / sealant was a real pain. i found a couple of areas that could have been the problem. there was a small crack on front right corner where the front meets the roof. while i was there i took the front sealing rail off and resealed.
i took some meter readings and its down to 22% .so fingers crossed its done the job

when i got the side rail off it looked like it had been pulled off previously as the ali section had every othe screw hole empty but was distorted like a screw head had pulled through it. so i peened them back in to place used sikaflex on the pannel joint .then put 45 mm mastic strip over the top then screwed the rail back in place. i have to trim some of the exess mastic off. hopefully thats sorted.
