Just before I put the caravan in to storage, I was buying some fenwicks over winter fluid.
When I overheard two guys talking about cleaning the roof of their motor home.
One of them said they used spray and leave patio cleaner.
I wish I had asked if he was joking or if it works,
All sort of things ran through my head.
Does not attack the paint work or any seals.
Has any one heard of this.
Thoughts please

If you Google the product you can find out the true facts yourself. This is what I have found after a Google search:

Perfect for cleaning patios and decking, however, it doesn't stop there as it can be used on almost all hard surfaces. Including fencing, paving, tarmac, garden paths, terracotta, glass greenhouses, windows, plastic, PVC and even caravans!

I don't know whether I would attempt to use 'Spray and Leave' patio cleaner on my caravan because all the items mentioned such as paving, garden slabs, tarmac and glass etc. don't have a painted surface therefore long term could have a chemical reaction to delicate painted surfaces with only a few microns of paint coverage. I will stick with Fenwick's Caravan Cleaner as I've been using it for the past 18 years which I'm confident is still the right product for the job which does actually shift stubborn algea. However, it would be interesting to have feedback from other members regarding their personal views on the product to see what their views are.

God I wouldn't use patio cleaner on the roof or anywhere on my caravan. It's quite a aggressive cleaner. We all know that caravan exterior finishes are a little delicate. I only use hot water and fairy washing up liguid on the roof. I do use Fennick on the front, back and front. Fennicks black streak remover on any black streaks. When things are dry I polish widows with Vuplex. All the best.

The Wash and forget is biological rather than aggressive. It takes some while to completely clean.

I also used it on my boat that was on a mooring most of the season. It did not affect the gelcoat at all

Certainly wouldn't use that sort of product without careful research of specific product suitability! Lot of different materials - metals, paints, sealants and plastics, on a caravan, some quite sensitive to chemical reactions.

'Wet and Forget' claims suitable for Caravans/MHs etc., BUT read the instructions and it says it may take WEEKS and even MONTHS to clean the surface! - obviously depends on degree of 'growth'. It's meant to be just applied and left to do it's thing, unlike most specific vehicle cleaning products which are faster acting and washed off at the time to leave a clean surface.

My caravan roof was pretty grim, having not been washed for 2 or 3 years (of my ownership, and I suspect even more in previous owner's possession!), and the overwinter open air storage left it green, black, and encrusted with 'all sorts', but Fenwicks Caravan Cleaner and a long handled wash brush brought it up impressively clean.

I'm lazy and don't like cleaning the van much, but do it thoroughly when I do, Fenwicks seems to do the job for me, mobile Service Engineer commented in Nov on how clean the van was considering it's age (7 years), and it hadn't been washed since about March, the Caravan Cleaner had got the muck off, and the Bobby Dazzler rinse kept it pretty clean!

My view of these things is, a bad choice of product can cause extensive damage which in all likelihood would virtually write off a caravan, as too expensive to rectify. Dedicated products bring a degree of reassurance.
