Thanks Dave, what happened was the leisure battery was put in the wrong way and when I put the mains on I messed the whole thing up. Oh this is my first caravan,

Go to some caravan / motorhome dealers and ask who they use, as the normally sub con electrical work out.

You might find it's an auto electrician who can do both, not a stand alone caravan expert.

If your profile details are up to date, you claim to have a 'Ford Fleetwood Bounder', now I believe that to be American, not sure of the details, but Americans often do things differently to UK/Euro manufacturers, so our collective experiences/advice may be of limited use.

Potentially fitting a battery the 'wrong way' with reverse polarity can have wide ranging consequences, a LOT of electronic gear suffers damage if subjected to reverse polarity, so pretty much every piece of electrical equipment fitted needs checking to ensure it's still OK. Even nominally 240v 'mains' equipment in caravans often has 12v powered control circuits, so little can be ruled out!

Think IMHO you really need the services of a good specialist engineer.

Lunar caravan or American MH, the consequences of reverse polarity are likely to be similar, DC electrical systems don't always take reverse polarity well!

The difference may come from how well the installation is understood by UK based people and how specific we can be.

You could check all the fuses first. There is often a fuse in the 12v line to the battery. Not always in the most obvious place! However some of the kit might have been killed.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder how you did it. All the batteries I have had have had different size terminal posts.
Would be helpful to know because it might stop someone else doing it.

The terminals can easily be on the wrong side for the battery locker.
