Hi.

I got back from a trip yesterday and all was well, but today after cleaning the van, the roof light is totally stuck down and won't push up, nevermind slide forwards.

Caravan is a 2004 lunar zenith, and I think the roof light is a Remis Tilt and Slide. It has 2 black window type handles on it and should push up 3 or 4 inches, then when up it slides forwards, but it won't even push up currently even though the handles are open.

Any ideas how I sort this out? I can't see any of the mechanism etc from inside, so I have no idea why it won't push up, or where to start with it, and I don't want to break it or make it leak.

It feels like it's kind of stuck on one side, but I haven't had chance to get the ladder out and look from outside. Do I need to somehow get some wd40 into the mechanism, presumably from the outside as I can't see any way of getting into anything from the inside?

I would not use WD40 but a Silicon lubricant. WD is not suitable for anything plastic.

Ok thanks. What brand is silicon lube?

I had a light bulb moment last night. We were parked under a tree so I'm wondering if a small twig or something has got into the mechanism and jammed it. Need to get up there at some point and see if there is a way to free it from outside.

Ok thanks.

Assuming I'm correct and something is jammed in the mechanism, can you get to this from the outside?

Or do I I take the inside bit off? I don't want to damage it or make it leak!

with the current heat it more likely that its the rubber seal that is stopping it from moving, so from the inside very gently push on the seal to free it off from the plastic window, this should gain you some movement, once you have done that spray the rubber seal with the silicone spray, but also use that to free off any remnants that are stuck on the roof light. it would also be a wise move to go around all your opening windows and spray then too.

There isn't a rubber seal...

I've been up tonight and looked at it on the ladder. Looks like there is an arm either side on a nut. Think I might try and remove the nut with a rachet another day and hopefully I can get the dome off. I can't work out where exactly it's stuck as it just doesn't move at all!

I mean could I buy another roof light and get it out somehow if I can't open it? Will any other roof light work so long as the cut out size is the same?
