I was reading in my c&cc magazine about battery safety .
We picked ours up to bring home to charge it . On the way we noticed a smell in the car I thought it was coming from outside . Reading the article I started to wonder if it was my leisure battery we had in on the floor behind driving seat . Could it be a problem ? The smell had gone by the time we got home .
The article didn’t say what the problem was it just said keep an eye on the battery but what do we need to check and is it safe if it’s disconnected ??
In all the caravans and motorhomes I have owned I have never been aware of any smell coming from the leisure battery. Is it a sealed or top up type battery and how old is it? If its one of those you have the top up it could be the level has been too low which will eventually destroy the battery. If its older than five years it probably needs replacing? I replaced the Banner battery in my last motorhome because it was always losing level and replaced it with a sealed AGM battery although similar could be a bit on the heavy side for a caravan.
It is a sealed battery . I think it’s about 3 or 4 years old . Our last caravan had a solar panel but we have to take this one out in the winter and top it up . We had left it in the caravan but I always disconnect one side. .we picked it up today to charge it before going away next week . We noticed the smell after about 15 mins .while it was inside the car . We were unsure a bit like oil or a burning . The smell had stopped by the time we arrived home . It was because I read the article in the c&cc magazine it made me wonder .
Sealed battery, no smell.
Possibly something you have driven past and the smell has come in through the vents and taken a little time to disperse.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
