Just enjoying the "sport" George.

I have witnessed people overfilling thier tanks and the fuel lands on the forecourt, warm day fuel evaporates hey presto! combustion, as you say unlikely to set fire to liquid petrol, none the less a danger worth avaoiding.

A good example you could use to prove its not illegal is these lorrys that have tarmac hot boxes on them or boiling tanks of roof pitch both heated by propane.

One other thought concerning this matter what about fire-eaters should they not be banned from petrol stations? Dammed dangerous.

The one question nobody seems to have mentioned is, if you have the pilot light, lite on the fridge when towing, and you are involved in a accident that's not even your fault. Are you giving the insurance companys a way of refusing to pay out, due to Caravan Handbooks and the advice from the 2 main clubs being that all gas appliances should be turned off and the gas bottle disconnected when towing?

And secondly why is this advice given? Is it because the pilot light is not designed to be lite when towing due to the way the moving air flow could affect it?

Hi Dave

Several gas apliance companies have products SPECIFICALLY designed to be used while on the move, the standard Carver/truma heater is one.

Yes there is a sign saying "engines must be switched off" and when you think about it how totally pointless it is, unless no vehicle could approach until the previous one as left then there are always vehicles in the close proximity with their engines running.

The most worrying thing I see involving fuel is men with BBQ's and "get it going" fuel!, I have seen several close calls and burns.

The way the worlds going it wont be safe to do anything, everything involves risk...........HSE and other Nannies are ruining the world by trying to wrap everything in cotton wool, .........By your logic no-one should do anything, because everything involves risk.

By my logic, if I want to put myself at risk, I will happily do so; I am not prepared to put others at risk, or let others put me at risk solely through their selfishness or stupidity (as quoted for example, overfilling petrol tanks on forecourts through inattention)- I'm sure the majority of working people are glad of the protection and safeguards that have been brought in by the HSE over the years.

...... I Know which is safer the ones that are against the rules

Hi Gram

What I mean by "I Know which is safer the ones that are against the rules"

Is that I would happily stand in a puddle of petrol with 20 mobile phones in use which is against the rules.................

and yet to do the same wearing a shell suit and rubbing you legs which is not against the rules is likely to set you alight.

People wear the wrong clothes  to forecourts every day which is far more dangerous (and yet the risk is tiny) and yet were there is far far less risk than clothing ie phones are banned.

Ergo the only stupidity is the muppet with no basis rules.

I Have several times Ignited a gas under pressure, never a huge explosion but then the gas was vented into an open atmosphear.

The gas was almost always Ignited by a butane gas and flint assembly.

Mostly after several beers and a K-Bab.....

"WARNING" lighting your farts can burn away all the hair on your butt and other outside places......
