Just light the gas, if there is air in the system it will go out, then relight and repeat until it stops going out.

When after changing a cylinder over the gas pipes will fill with air, so when the new cylinder is connected you have to get all the air out by openning a gas ring on the cooker, the pressure of the gas in the cylinder will push the air through the pipes thus 'purging' the system, if you are not getting any air/gas through then you  have a blockage or the inline gas cocks are in the off position or a dodgy regulator.

Thanks for that info, it is appreciated.

I did leave the gas open for quite a long time but still unable to re-light. Guess I'll  now check with dealer now that I know what should happen.

Remember that most hobs have a 'fail safe' system that means the gas won't flow if the flame isn't burning UNLESS you hold the control knob in - just leaving the control in the 'on' position won't purge air from the pipes.
