Hmmmm - not thought about that one till now. How about sterilising tablet or 10 in aqua roll and run it through? Also, change water filter at the beginning of every season. Hope this helps. Couldn't stand the blue face.

I use Milton solution (as used to sterilise baby's bottles). Mix as directed on the bottle in a container and pump through to the taps till you smell the solution (I believe it's a mild bleach). Leave it in the pipes about 1 hour then flush through with clean water a few times. I also do the aquaroll with Milton solution.

I normally use Puriclean, which you can buy at a modest cost from any caravan dealer. However, earlier this year our van had some sort of mould build-up in the pipes which Puriclean couldn't shift, so on the advice of a fellow caravanner I used Bruclean, which is a product from the home brewing industry - absolutely brilliant and very cheap. Just be sure to follow the instructions re time and mixture strength carefully!

Hi Danthespan

recently cleaned mine out for the season and used puriclean available from the caravan dealers works great but remember to remove your filter first otherwise it gets into the charcoal and leaves a funny taste ended up replacing the filter even though it was only used twice last year. The caravan club web site i think has a print out telling you wot to do i found it too late.

Hounddog.

Hi all

I was wondering about how to clean the pipes of our van, it does have water filter in line under the sink, but my users manual indicated bypassing the filter if using cleaners to avoid contaminating the filter. We have been using Milton to clean the waste pipes from sinks etc.

How often should the inbound water pipes be sterilised?

Thanks

Hi Dave -

Milton or Puriclean seem to be the popular ones.  Several posters have indicated that you should not leave Milton in system for longer than 1 hour to eliminate risk of affecting metal parts (water heater in particular).  I use Milton and run it through the system at the start of each season flushing well with clean water after 1 hour.  I sometimes do it again later in season if there has been an extended lay-up (e.g. not using the van for a couple of months) but probably not necessary if the van is in regular use through the season.  DON'T run cleaner through your filter - it will probably ruin it - bypass the filter and change for a new filter once a year.

Jon
