Our Electrolux fridge has developed a strong almost bacon like smell on our last outing, despite cleaning the inside thoroughly with disenfectant and no obvious food particles visible the smell returns and only when the door is open, we dont run the fridge from the gas only mains electric, any ideas
put some bicarbonate of soda in a piece of fabric and tie it up. Leave in the fridge only removing to replace with another one. Helps stop smelly food tainting other foods too.
Thanks all for the great suggestions I will give them a go but I was wondering what is actually causing the smell as there was nothing unusual in the fridge area ( we threw out all the food ) and only occurs when the fridge is on. It is not a burning wire ( fishy smell ) Are there any filters or vents that would require cleaning, couldnt see anything obvious inside the fridge
thanks for the info, The smell doesnt have a chemical pong to it so I dont think it is ammonia which I would imagine has a bit of a kick to it, like I said it smells like ripe bacon and only comes from inside the fridge area not from the workings to the rear, and is only there when you open the door after it has been switched on.
