We have recently bought a van an old one but in great nick (before this we used an old trailer tent) I keep seeing coments about annual service I do not know if the one we have bought has ever had a service? could someone tell me how I go about getting one done? I live in Birmingham also what sort of insurances do you need? It is parked on the drive of my house does my house insurance not cover it? please help.......
No, your house insurance will almost certainly not cover the caravan sitting at home, and certainly won't cover ir when it's sitting on a site somewhere.
I would have thought your local caravan dealer will do services.
Thank you i have seen a few notices for caravan insurances on this web site i have been asking for quotes, thank you for your reply I will have to find a local caravan dealer for the services there is no web site i supose?
Regarding caravan service, I would simply phone round several local dealers and compare prices and whats actually done in the service. If your van is pretty old without some of the facilities/services of newer vans, then some dealers' services might include things which you don't need for your particular age of van.
Thank you both for your replys I have spoken to chichester caravans today they £180 for the service but the others were not answering the phone I will give them a call later. my van is old it is 1989.
Hiya' Keks, and welcome to the site, it's a good 'un.
Be careful and ring around a bit before you go parting with £180. Most dealers around our way charge a standard £130 for an anual service. £50 saved will take you off somewhere next season.
Good Luck

------------- Don't stop doing things because you're getting old.... Because you only get old when you stop doing things!
If you know anyone else with a caravan ask if they know of a reputable mobile caravan service engineer. As they have less overheads than dealers they are more likely to be cheaper. If you only have a basic van with no hot water or central heating(as I do) they may also only charge for what they do rather than a set price service. Check what they charge when you call them. I paid £75 earlier in the year.
Mustard thanks for your reply i will check around first, & yes les4paintings it is a good site I have learned so from it this week i followed instructions someone said to rub olive oil on the rubbers to stop them sticking, all all sorts of others little tricks, while I am here i do not supose someone could tell me how to unstick the steps that have rusted under the van, I have tried WD40 & left it to stand with it on for a while but it is not shifting. any way bye for now off to Leesdon park nr Evesham this week end.
