as some of you know I have just replaced the car with a new Ford C Max, on Thursday I had a tow hitch with twin electrics fitted to it, I asked the fitter did you check its all working ok , " yes " he said.
today i decided to check the car against the caravan and guess what?
yep I do not have a right hand indicator I have checked the socket with my Multi meter and their is no power going to the pin 4 connection. i have also noticed that when i have the side lights on and the left hand indicator on at the same time the running lights flash in time with the indicator going on and off.
Oh dear Als, So sorry to hear your having probs with your electrics, Hope they get it sorted soon

Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away and have his shoes

Sounds like a bad earth to me Al , when you take it back i'd get em to show you it working .
Can someone explain why so many people cannot 'get it right'?!!!! When we bought our Discovery, we had a second socket fitted to the existing tow-pack (that worked fine), and had our Alko tow-ball fitted. We told the fitter specifically that the top of the ball should be no more than 19 inches from the ground (the tow-bar has 4 heights at which a ball can be fitted) ....... good job we checked when we got it home, as the ball was 23 inches from the ground!! The rear of our trailer would have been touching the ground with the hitch at that height (and they had 'kindly' greased our lovely dry Alko ball!!!). As we live in the Leeds and the dealer is in Huddersfield, we recruited a friend with a torque wrench and a big socket to move the ball. Grrrr!
My point is, that after spending money to have a job done, is it really so hard to get it right first time? Al must have spent a fair-sized wedge on this new car (we certainly did on the Disco!) - is it too much to ask that they get the tow-bar right?
I have found that fitters often don't connect the reversing light cables. Whether they are too lazy, or believe that no towed vehicles have reversing lights I am not sure, but it is always worth checking htat everything works before driving off in your vehicle.
the update is that the car goes back in tomorrow to get sorted, this time i will stay with it.
at first when i told them the car had no right hand indicator he said it must be the caravan,
very good i said , so explain to me why its the caravan when i tested the car socket with a multimeter across pins 3 & 4 and their is no power reading. ermmmm must be a bad connection.
doh

Oooh - you caught them out there Als - you were supposed to have no idea what you were talking about and go away, thinking they must be right, to have your caravan electrics checked out (at your expense of course). When you went back with the answer that the 'van electrics were OK (in about 6 weeks when you've found a 'van dealer that can fit it in!!), the tow-bar fitter could claim the connection was OK when he made it, and you must have worked it loose somehow - then try to charge you to put it right!!!
I have a great problem too> brought a new Audi quattro and had a removable tow bar fitted, ( I like to confuse all those watching on site! they wonder how we got there!) Mine is great until the car is free of caravan and towbar rmoved, then everytime I indicate and press the foot break the caravan beepers go off! this causes even more confusion on site to people hearing the beeps from outside of the car! I now take the fuse out when not towing. PS the garage are unable to find the cause!!!! not bad for a 30k car and 1k tow bar! Bar humbug!
------------- barbie, bodyboards, bedding, bacon and booze what else do we need to pack! oops the KIDS, DOG and All Hangers on coming with us!
all is well now as I arrived at his workshop today and he set about the car instantly, he went under it first ( dont ask as I dont know why) he then opened the right hand inner panel of the car and behold their was a nice blue withe on the relay switch that should have been connected to the green wire of the right hand indicator. and guess what else we found on the floor of the car ? yes a scotch block connector. ( unused ) all is now well with the world
