I'd like to be able to charge my mobile phone using a spare battery, on those occasions when I don't use the car for several days and can't use the normal in-car charger.

What I need is a gadget with a cigarette lighter type socket on one end, and battery clamps or crocodile clips on the other end. Is such a thing obtainable? If so, what's it called? And does anyone know where I might buy one, preferably a shop rather than over the internet?

Hiya' Paul,

Welcome to the club....it's a good'un.

Do you not have an ordinary in house charger for your phone?  If so, and provided that you are camping on an EHU then there sould be no probs.....just plug your charger in and off you go.  But if you are not on an EHU then you can buy a 12 volt converter from most caravan accessory shop.

Good Luck

Les Wilson

Thanks-  I'll often be in the middle of nowhere!

It looks very interesting here - just been browsing through lots of subjects. I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

You can buy one of those in any decent camping shop, caravan dealer or motor accessory shop.

Instead of carrying a spare battery, one of the jump start powerpacks would be easier to carry and should provide enough power for phone charging, some have a 12 volt cigar lighter socket built in too.

Have a look at this one from Towsure:

We have one and connect it to spare battery we carry for using lights in awning.  Great for pumps for blowing up beds as well.

That's quite neat. I hadn't realised there were so many gadgets out there!

I'll have to be careful next time I visit Harringtons or I'll end up with several trolleyfuls.

It's not if you haven't got an EHU.

Exactly. I may be a couple of weeks without access to mains and without driving the car more than a few minutes.
