I was towing my lovely Swift back from Bridlington on bank holiday Monday, when some astra gte young boy racer nutter ran into the back of my van, as you can imagine i was not happy. Anyway, I am claiming through his insurance company but the panel will take 16-20 weeks to come. If it was a car they would be obliged to put me in a hire car does anyone know how it works with a caravan?

Thats a thought, I have not been in touch with my insurance company yet as didn't really want to get them involved but it's worth a call.

Yes indeed.  Even if you are not wanting to make a claim you should still inform them.  Something to do with "disclosure".  Actually most insurance companies are really helpful once you get to know them.  They are part of that "old boy network" and really want to keep your business so are usually happy to help.  Sometimes it is better to claim on your own insurance ( after all that's why you have it!!)  and sort out the legal stuff later.

Talk to your insurers, they will advise you.

Remember you should still inform your own insurer of the incident, just tell them you are not making a claim at this stage.  That way if your  third party claim goes pear -shaped you will still be able to claim on your own policy.  Anything could happen in 5 months.  Where is the van now?  Is it under cover?  You don't want damp getting in.  If it is not at its usual location you need to tell your insurers.
