Personally I dont think it is necessary unless you havea fridge connected and you are travelling some distance.  Even if you use it on site because you are unable to get an electric connection ~(whichcan happen at very busy times) it mught run your car battery down if used for long periods.

Fifty pounds just to add a second socket seems a bit steep, but then I fitted my own towbar and electrics (dead easy if you have any electrical experience at all).

Just to clear up, running a second socket (and fridge off it) won't run your car battery down as the fridge is only powered when the engine is running. The second socket (12S) also feeds the reversing lights on your caravan. Not that I do much reversing, but if the lights are there then it must be for a reason.

I agree its a bit steep 50 quid. Ive fitted a couple of towbars myself. Double electrics both times. 20 quid and 25 quid for twin electrics to be wired up. 20 quid was a 1.8 and 25 quid was a 2.5 v6.

I had single elecrics fitted when I had my tow bar fitted as it was only for a trailer. I have now got a caravan so asked the fella who fitted it how much to change it to a double and he told me it would be £120. Thats what I paid for the whole thing in the first place. Im sticking with the single one now.

The car i have now had a only used once towbar with twin electrics when i bought it. We was not planning to buy another van at the time, but it seemed to be a waste of a towbar. If it did not have twin electrics, i would have got it done as i know of a cheap auto electrician. I need the fridge to work as i like a cold beer when i arrive and wife likes her wine.
