How many of you polish all the interior wood in the caravan on a regular basis, i.e. once or twice a year? I am led to believe that this will prevent the wood "drying" out and perhaps cracking. Also makes the van smell nicer.
I use Mr Sheen when I clean the van between trips, makes it smell nice. However there is not that much real ( solid ) wood visible, mostly veneer on ply or MDF, and that is all sealed with some type of coating, so I doubt anything penetrates the timber. With all the ventilation in vans I would not worry too much about drying out in this country.
Nope, never 'polish' any wood in the caravan or in the house.
Commercial polishes seem to coat surfaces in horrible silicon build-up, which becomes all unnaturally shiny over time. In the house, any solid wood is just damp-dusted and in the caravan, I don't think there is really any 'wood' fittings to speak of anyway - just thin veneers and wood-effect stuff!!
As to smell - ours smells like a caravan! Which is lovely IMHO!
Wood! mine ain't wood it's that plastic wood isnt' it or so i thought. I never polish mine only use antibacterial spray on it. I thought polish was silicone based, and it tend's to build up sometimes, i don't know forsure.
I bought some of that soapy stuff for wood can't remember what it is called now,(and it is in van not here) but you dilute it seems quite good and fetches all surface dirt off leaving it all nice and clean.

Just today I have been trying 'Lord Sheraton's Liquid Gold' on the vans woodwork but it's no good on plastic or varnish finishes. Iv'e found that it does work on my older varished wood because the varish will now be full of invisible cracks which the oil can get into. Using it on ultra fine wire wool seems best in these circumstances and the results are really good, it's removed grease and grime with ease and leaves a nice glow when allowed to dry and then buffed.
It's about £4 for a 250ml tin but I understand it is just a mixture of white spirit and teak or cedar oil so the ingredents are a lot cheaper than this from Wilko's!!
