When our boys were younger, and ate enough for a small army, I always used the pressure cooker. In fact in a charity shop in posh Lymington, I found a brand new one for sale, so I had 2 pressure cookers on the go. I'd do the stew or whatever in one, and a steamed sponge pudding in the other. Sometimes I'd make a steak and kidney pudding in one and do the veg in the other one. They are so versatile, and cant be beaten for cooking tougher cuts of meat etc. Of course, this was in the days before microwaves.
