can anyone tell me please if a car battery charger can be used to charge a leisure battery or do i have to buy a specific charger for the job thanks

Yes a car battery charger is fine, just dont charge at over 5 amps.

No a car battery is not fine. You need to check that it is suitable for deep cell batteries. The ones that are ok are specifically marked for leisure batteries.

I am afraid u are under a misconception pobrey, probably put out by some one wanting to make money out of u.
A car charger is fine to use as long as u dont boost charge it. i.e, as i said, under 5 amps.

A car charger is ok but will not fully charge a leisure battery, same thing with a Zig charger, have a look at the link, very boring but everything you need to know about batterys We have disconnected our Zig charger in our caravan and charge the batterys (2x85ahp) with a proper leisure battery charger.

Ive ruined 2 leisure batteries using a standard car charger,have since purchased proper leisure charger from halfords,have it linked up to main van & leisure batteries,
& when fully charged, goes into maintainance mode.A while back ( on the normal car charger) I left it charging overnight,the main battery overflowed acid which just happened to spill onto headlamp adjuster nut ,ate through it,& caused said lamp to nearly flop out.

thanks everyone i went on towsure this afternoon and ordered a battery charger what does both leisure and car batteries as after looking at my existing car battery charger it says it charges at 15 amp which is prob quite high for a leisure battery

ok u win i stand corrected, that website is very good, but it does (more or less )say u can charge with ordinary battery charger, it just wont reach peak rate. as wont a car battery.
