Topic: Lunar Leak Under Sink

We have a leak under the sink (yeah yeah, we should use the toilet! PMSL). We have tried to fix this but no luck, it leaks into the cupboard below when you wash up.

Any ideas?

First of all work out exactly where the leak is by placing some cardboard under and feeling for leaks with dry fingers it will be either the seal around the waste where it joins to the sink, I bought a complete waste fitting last year for about £5, or it could be the pipe where someone has shoved something down there. If this is the case then you can easily get a new pipe or insert a small length of copper tube with jubilee clips.

Lunar's...do they do anything but leak?

We had the same thing happen on our Lunar, we found that the leak was actually around the sink where it had been poorly fitted/sealed, a clear sealant all around the sink etc soon sorted out the problem.

If the leak is from the fittings/pipe on yours then a gasket sealant should solve the problem.

check your pipes are on the taps they sometimes come off in winter .It can't be serious it may be the drain where the plug goes in , you can try that by not running the taps tip some water in the sink fill up your kettle at the site tap if it drips its the joint if not its coming from the taps or as mentioned the draining board.If it isn't the taps leaking then you can get sealer from poundland along with a gun to put it on with total cost ?2.0

I got the same problem with my new Abbey. When I use the tap in the kitchen area, it drips into the cutlery drawer underneath. Goes in for its first service next week and boy do I have a list for them

Like Paul & Wendy says you need to acertain where the leak is. Dry off all the affected area paper tissue/kitchen roll is the best. Fill up your sink and with kitchen roll dab aroung the waste area to look for the leak the tissue is very searching. 9/10 times its someone who has pushed the pipes or waste and dislodged it. The remedy is normally push back on a little futher. However sometimes the grey or black corregated waste pipe splits then this will need to be replaced and can get this from most caravan accessory shops but make sure you get the right diameter as some of the older vans tend to be the smaller diameter - good luck

We had this on our new Abbey GTS where the water drained into the drawer under the si nk, turned out that the waste assembly that joins pipe to sink was split and it was replaced under warrenty

if your taps are whale it could be the T piece 13 thats leaking,there is two small wahers inside black.this T bit slides onto 14 and the other side.sometimes you can get away with just pushing the taps together at the bottom. www.caravanfaultfinder.co.uk

We have found the leak between the sink and where the waste joins it with a rubber seal. It has rusted the sink aound the seal and you can see it bubble out! Will we need a new sink?

It all depends on how far it has gone really but I doubt it. Start off by stripping it down and cleaning thoroughly and if you are lucky enough you'll be able to reseal with silicone sealer but to do so you'll have to take it apart as sealing around the outside wont solve anything, just make sure that it's absolutely bone dry before putting it back together and let it set for at least 48hrs before putting it to test.

You could try a repair with Plastic Padding or a fibre glass resin.
