Hi there,

after waiting  since July last year  for our caravan to be repaired, the company doing the work now say they may not be able to get the sidepanel for our elddis caravan as it is 10 years old,1995 Model, and they can no longer  source a panel from the manufactures , so  may not be able to do the repair , does anyone know what happens in a case like this? we are insured with the caravan and camping club, and they won't say what they will do until the repairers give a definite answer, but perhaps a second hand panel could be found!! does anyone have any idea what might happen in a case like this? as we are quite worried we have only had the caravan  18 months!

Hi, I have worked in the coach building industry. And I would say that IF a decent enough secondhand panel could be found, then removing it from the donor van and fitting it wouldn't finish in a very satisfactory job. Unfortunately if a new panel can't be found or a alterative new part panel then your van would have to be classed as a 'write off'. But your insurance should then offer you a valuation which you should at least be able to replace the van with an equal or better age and spec. I would look around to see the average value of a replacement van both year and condition so you have a guide figure in case your insurance do offer you a settlement figure

Thanks for your replies. hopefully it won't come to having to write off the caravan as we have only had it 18 months but as rabb_uk said this might be the only option. The van is still usable at present but not much point of keeping it if it's value is vastly reduced by this damage.

hiya kitten

, i find this very odd, having repaired vans for 16 years i have found that there are suppliers of alloy panels to match manufactors panels or plastic fronts and backs seems to me like the repairers cant be bothered
