I think our carver heater has broken . We used for the first time in ages as it was below freezng.I worked for about 15-20 mins then it stopped blowing out hot air through the blowers. We thought that the thermostat had turned it off so we didnt pay much attention. to it. 20 mins later the blowers came on again but was blowing out cold air. We knew the heater was working to start with as we could feel the heat and also smell the dust that was being burnt off the element. I switched it over to gas and that works fine. I checked the fuses and trip switches and they're all ok.
1)does anyone know what the problem could be?
2)how easy is it to take the carver heater out? or
3)is it a dealer job?

This used to happen on our last van, blown air was sometimes cold on electric, have you tried pressing the reset button on the back of the heater?
to get at ours we had to take the drawers out above the heater, locate a square box down the left hand side of the heater and press the not too identifiable button in the middle and found it worked.
to locate the said box the first time, we had to use a mirror and a torch as I have already said the reset button is not very prominent
Yes as Ann says you will need to check the reset has not tripped because that smell of dust burning could well be the reason it overheated and tripped in the first place. Ann's instructions for finding it are also pretty good...I know what you mean Ann !?
Note, early Fanmasters circa 1995 did not have the reset but a 'one shot' thermal fuse, if so this will need replacing or upgrading to get it working.
Ok thanks. I tried to locate it when we were in the van. But without knowing what to look for or what to take apart I left it alone till I asked you knowledgeable people on this site. Will let you know how I got on with it when we go out next month.
Cheers
STAY TUNED.......

We had a similar problem when we first bought our caravan. After advice from a web site, not this one, were advised to check the mains plug. This is located on the back of the unit and you have to reach behind and push it back in, in our case through a drawer opening. The fans and the controls will continue to work OK as they are 12v.
Have since found out that this is a common problem on some models of Carver heater.
Yes Colin you will be referring to the last Fanmasters fitted 1998/00 and now known as the Mk2, these have a slide control switch on the fire front and use a 'kettle plug' to connect the mains. This plug often falls out if a 'cable tie' is not used to keep them in place, a bracket with a hole for the cable tie should be attached with the lower fixing screw for the control box.
This type fanmaster also don't have a reset switch.
