Hey all, I'm in need of some help again. I 've just tried the water heater for the first time, and it don't work!!! Help
It's a carver cascade mk2. I've filled the hot water tank up, switched all the power on and then switched the heater switch on. The green light came on and it started ticking, then the red light came on, and that's all it does.
The gas is on, but on the gas inlet to the heater there is a double connector for the gas with two red taps on it, I've tried these in every combintion I can think of but still nothing.
First it could be the gas taps are for the water heater and the gas fire, normally these are 'on' when the longer edge of the tap head is pointing along the pipe to the appliance and 'off' when across it... each quarter turn is on off on off
At this time of year the cascade could be lighting but the electronics don't recognise the flame is lit, you can check this by holding your hand over the top of the vent outside and you will feel the heat of the flame. If it is lighting but going out then it could well just be damp, a possible way of fixing this is to place a hair dryer to blow warm air on the black box under the water tank for half an hour or so. I say this because those with the mains electric heating option say starting it on electric gets the gas side working so if you have electric? warm it up on that first.
Other than that there are several other possibles but get the easy ones out of the way first!!
Flatcap If you read what luke is saying he has tried it and it is ticking this is the 12 volts spark generator working trying to light the flame. If he didnt have 12volts it wouldnt be ticking. Please keep us informed Luke I am intrigued as to the solution, could it be that Gary is correct once again - nice one Gazza
The gas will not get through if the battery isn't connected its a cut off device that stops gas flowing if there is no ignition connect a battery , I will look for a diagram and post it if I am allowed
And I know this may sound daft, but don't forget to take the vent cover off the outside of the 'van (I've left this on by accident before, and it took me ages to work out why the water heater would not light!). Leaving the cover on caused the symptoms you describe, as the electronics 'know' the vent is blocked and cut the gas supply for safety.
We are having a simular problem our water,it will heat up on electric but when we switch it on when we have no electric it shows green then goes on to heater fault.
Thanks guys, once again. I will try these in a bit and let you know. Only one thing is that the gas inlet taps are on a 'T' connection, so nno straight up & down.
After more investigation, there is not a positive 'clunk' when I flick the switch. I have read about a solenoid defect, could this be the case, and what does the solenoid trigger??
I read the piece about needing a battery and not running off a charger, but am I right in assuming that this does not include EHU??
